Global Entrepreneurship Week – Themes and Activities for 2016

gew-2016-01bmDuring one week each November, entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and policymakers celebrate entrepreneurship in more than 160 countries for Global Entrepreneurship Week, and in 2016, GEW will focus on several themes that highlight high-growth, high-impact disruptors, while encouraging new firms to start and scale.

There are less than three months left until Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016, where nearly 10 million people will participate in a variety of activities, events and competitions intended to inspire, connect and engage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Of more than 30,000 events held around the world this year, GEW will shine a spotlight on several key entrepreneurial themes – including women, youth, investors, cities and scale-ups – through initiatives from local and national organizers that support entrepreneurship.

GEW was launched in 2008 with 77 countries, and has since doubled in size to celebrate entrepreneurship in more than 160 countries this year. In 2014, the team that brought GEW to life became the Global Entrepreneurship Network, powered by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri. GEN is a year-round platform of events and initiatives aimed at creating one global entrepreneurial ecosystem – fueled in part by the widespread GEW events held for the past nine years.

The celebration will run from November 14 – 20, 2016, with more than 15,000 partners around the world. Past partners and brands that have engaged in the celebrations include Virgin, Barclays, United Nations, World Bank, Dell, Euronext, Microsoft, Shell, and Evernote, to name a few.
