The Department of Energy (DOE), SunShot Catalyst is an open innovation program that allows the public to rapidly create and develop products and solutions that address near-term challenges in the U.S. solar marketplace through prize challenges.

The Catalyst Program consists of four contest steps backed by $1,000,000 in prizes.

Entrepreneurs will demo their prototypes before a panel of investors, judges and their peers in May 2015. Up to 5 winning teams will receive $30,000 and up to an additional $70,000 follow-on funding from DOE as they grow and scale their innovative solar solution.

Through an innovative partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Topcoder, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to use the Topcoder platform and developer community to create software prototypes.

The program is now accepting video pitches through the online platform. Entrepreneurs that upload a video pitch by November 7, 2014 will be eligible to receive $25,000 in software development services provided by Topcoder.
